Today was my third visit to this beautiful historic Theatre. Today was the Nutcracker performance of the Grand Rapids Youth Ballet, always a wonderful show.
Parking was ok but had a few people in our group that couldn't navigate the poorly shoveled sidewalks around so drop off by the main entrance blocked traffic. Other than that first time here and watched my first ballet(The Nutcracker) in which my nephew Ross Lindhout was a guest dancer in. Overall a good experience.
Second, it boasts much of its original roaring 20s swag, including a mammoth vertical marquee, which is the largest of it's kind in all of West Michigan.
The staff was great. It is the system that is broken. To allow up to 20 tickets per online order seems excessive while those of us standing a long slow line watch the available tickets disappear. This wonderful event always sells out and a broader audience would love to see it but tickets sales need more regulation to accomplish this broader diversity.
Gorgeous theater. We had our engagement photos taken here. The staff was very easy going and helpful.
The Frauenthal is a true classic theatre palace quite remarkable in several ways. First and foremost it survives in a city that inexplicably and indiscriminately tore down its entire downtown retail area several decades ago and just left a big hole.
Third, it is in remarkably good condition and stays busy. A surprisingly worthy home for the wonderful West Michigan Symphony, the theater hosts many other music and live stage events featuring artists often found and featured on local PBS station.
