Very long lines, not enough staff to move people along and it takes over 2 hours of waiting time.
This Secretary of State has got to be the worst location in the state of Michigan. If you are just walking in to get something done, plan on waiting at least an hour on average. Finally the SOS has a website to make an appointment. Do that and save yourself a lot of wasted time. Just be there a few minutes early for it or not more than 5 minutes past your appointment. I was late and the woman who helped me was pretty friendly after being a little rough to start with.
Many times people don't realize that they could avoid the lines and do what they need to do online. Getting license plate tabs, or renewing your driver's license or state ID can be done at the online portal. Of course conditions apply.
Normally super busy and a long wait. If able I would use the kiosk or do what you need to online. If you can't go that route expect to wait at least 30 minutes on average.
