I was amazed at all the bad reviews here. Basically they are all whiners that don't read the rules and violate then then get called on it by the rangers. We found the park very nice and QUIET which is more than I can say for the state parks. Park was highly recommended by several couples and this was our first time here. We will definitely be back! As for all the haranging of the rangers, GET OVER IT PEOPLE, they're doing their jobs and keeping the campground quiet! Go Pioneer Park!
Worst park rangers ever !!!!! We had our site across the restrooms& showers, and some people parked their car next to ours , to use the facility. Well doesn't matter that we was around the fire enjoying our time , the rangers came all the time for every single car who parked next to ours . Seriously I came to rest and enjoy my weekend not to explain to thouse rangers ,4-5 times /night ,that we have just one car on our site and ... no I don't know who's car is next to ours , People let their cars just for few minutes .One of the rangers tryed to open the door of a car , that pissed me off .. seriously is that legal? When I ask him what the heck is he doing , he said that he didn't done that , he lied in my face . We stayed 3 nights and , every single one they interrupted us , for the same reason. Was our first time here but maybe the last one too .
Nice campground. Prices are reasonable and was kept pretty clean. You have to go up/down a pretty good flight of stairs to access both beach areas though and you have to pay extra for a pass for your vehicles. We had the pass bought through Secretary of State, but it's only good at state parks and this was a county park. It used to be that would get you into any state or county park, but now it varies by county. I likely won't go back again because of this, since I pay for the pass through Secretary of State.
We go there 2 times a year but with the last experience we will no longer be going there because of the harassment we receive from the staff. The staff like to lie when caught in their own mistakes. We have seen a change in the amount of people who go there. The only reason I rated them a 2 star is becausemy kids love the beach access and the playground.
My family has been spending summers here for more than 3 decades. We always come with friends and get several sites together. In the last few years the rangers have been in a CRAZY power trip. We had a carpet in front of our camper and one under our tent, they overlapped by about 5 inches in 1 corner. The rangers came up to us and very unkindly told us this is not allowed. Why on earth do they regulate stuff like that??? If you're being slightly loud at 10:01 you better believe you'll get a warning, and don't even think about stepping foot on the dunes. Parking is atrocious too, there is zero overnight visitor parking. They've successfully taken the fun out of camping. We're already looking for another park.
